In the fall of 2005, Joe Coad II started college at his hometown school of Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN, 4 months after turning 18. As a sports fanatic, having ridiculous amounts of useless stats saved in his brain, he wanted to go to school to become a TV anchor on Sportscenter. That dream was soon derailed as he found out he could be employed at the campus radio station 89.7FM WISU. As a kid who loved hip-hop as well, he started training for Hotmix 90, the stations weekend hip-hop format. Training under director Aaron "King Mydas" Garner he had to think of an on-air name on the spot one night. Being young and wanting to show some respect to the guy who was putting work into training him, he blurted out "PrinceJay" on-air, and the rest is history.(Lame story, right?)
PrinceJay remained a fixture at Hotmix 90, picking up more air shifts and trying to get better at his craft. Once the Sik-Wit-It Sunday crew had left, recent director Shy Holder told him to apply for the Hotmix director position. He did and received it.
For the next 3 years, PrinceJay molded Hotmix 90 in to the way he thought it should sound. Along the way, he incorporated more local music saying, "everyone deserves a chance to be heard." At the end of his tenure, there had been 30+ local artists from the area in rotation on the station's playlist
PrinceJay currently still works, but in commercial radio. He's the owner/operator of this blog and everything under PrinceJay's Mindframe. In addition to that, he blogs for the M Productions Blog for Michael Miller of M Productions , is 1/3 of the online sports talk show The Shy Show, and will be writing for an online magazine that is currently still in the naming process.
